The first Sci-Escapes tours were launched in partnership with the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society. Two batches of guests from Biosphere Expeditions spent a month conducting elephant and leopard ecological research in the Wasgamuwa area making a great contribution to the ongoing conservation efforts. |

After the tsunami hit Sri Lanka in December, we provided all the ground, water and air support and logistics to one of the teams assigned by the Department of Wildlife Conservation to conduct the first post-Tsunami Ecological Assessment of protected areas. The team consisted of personnel from the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society and the Nature Conservancy. The logistics included providing 4WD vehicles, motorboats to dive and assess coral reefs and a helicopter to survey the total tsunami impacted coastline as well as furnished mobile campsites where no other accommodation was available. The whole assessment was covered by the National Public Radio USA and Discovery Channel. |
